Friends of Detroit City Airport Participate in Neighborhoods Day

The Friends of Detroit City Airport has been a long-time participant in ARISE Detroit!'s annual Neighborhoods Day event, which aims to unite community organizations and encourage volunteerism. This year marked the 16th anniversary of the event, with over 150 registrations from various organizations across Detroit.

Neighborhoods Day is a day of service that brings together nonprofit organizations, schools, churches, and other groups to host community events such as clean-up initiatives, vaccination drives, art festivals, and school supply giveaways. The Friends of Detroit City Airport was proud to participate in one of these events at the Young International Detroit City Airport on the city's east side.

On Saturday, campers from the Airport 101 day camp program got hands-on experience with community service by pulling weeds, sweeping dirt, and cleaning up around the Coleman A. This event not only promoted a sense of responsibility among the young participants but also emphasized the importance of giving back to the community.

The Friends of Detroit City Airport has been teaching youths about aviation for over 30 years, offering day camps that expose them to various fields such as aerospace, engineering, math, science, and technology. By participating in Neighborhoods Day, they not only demonstrate their commitment to community service but also provide a unique opportunity for young people to learn valuable skills while making a positive impact.
